Kuntur Wasi and Puma Uta Viewpoints — Panoramic City Views, Photos, and Sunsets

🦅 Kuntur Wasi Lookout: “House of the Condor”

      

The Kuntur Wasi viewpoint, whose name in Quechua means “House of the Condor ,” is located southwest of Puno. It offers a sweeping view of the city and Lake Titicaca , ideal for photography enthusiasts and those who enjoy urban and natural landscapes from above.

His large metal sculpture of the condor, with a wingspan of about 11 m, represents strength, freedom and connection between heaven and earth according to Andean tradition.

The viewpoint is about 2 km from the center of Puno (approximately 10–15 minutes by taxi or public transport). You can also climb the steps if you prefer a more active experience.


🐾 Puma Uta Lookout: The guardian of the city

    

The Puma Uta viewpoint , located in the Alto Puno area north of the city, is another iconic panoramic destination and considered one of the best viewpoints in Puno. The viewpoint is crowned by a giant sculpture of a puma , a sacred animal representing strength and protection, linked to the ancestral worldview of the Altiplano.

Puma Uta” means “House of the Puma” or place where the puma is in Aymara (puma = puma, uta = house). The name refers to the monumental sculpture of a puma that crowns the viewpoint and symbolizes a vigilant sentinel and protector of the lakeside city of Puno and its surroundings.

In the Andean worldview, the puma is a sacred animal that represents strength, wisdom, and protection; moreover, this symbolism connects the present world with ancestral beliefs about guardianship and harmony with nature. Therefore, in this context the figure of the puma at the viewpoint acts as a protective symbol of the region, standing above the landscape to safeguard both the city and the valley.
