Summary

The Tour Mountain of Colors and Red Valley or also known as Vinicunca Mountain, is located in the province of Canchis, department of Cusco, belonging to the community Pitumarca and Cusipata; it is one of the most relevant attractions in the route of Ausangate at an altitude of 5200 meters above sea level, the distance from Cusco to the Mountain of 7 colors is 140 kilometers. This attraction became the most frequented due to the variety of colors that is evident in the mountain, so you can also appreciate the wildlife such as Alpacas and Llamas typical of the area.

The hike to reach this mountain of 7 colors is approximately 2 hours, and part of the tour is to visit the viewpoint of the Red Valley that is very close to the mountain of 7 colors, which allows you to have an extraordinary view of a chain of mountains and a valley of red color, which are part of the Vilcanota mountain range.

These colors are due to the presence of large quantities of iron minerals in a state of oxidation.

Day 1

  The tour starts with the pick up from the hotel near the historic center of Cusco, between 4:00 – 5:00 am.
Then we will head south of Cusco, to the town of Cusipata where we will have our first stop for breakfast.
Then we will continue along the road to the parking lot, from where we will start our hike. Before starting the hike, our guide will give us the necessary instructions to enjoy the tour.
 Afterwards we will have a walk of approximately 2 hours until we arrive at the 7 Colors Mountain, when we will have the explanation of the guide, enough time to take pictures and walk through much of the place.
 Continuing with the tour, we will walk through the Red Valley for approximately 30 minutes until we reach the viewpoint where we will have a spectacular view of the colorful mountain range.
We will finish our tour, walking to the parking lot to return to Cusipata where we will have lunch and then return to Cusco (approximate time of arrival 17:30 p.m.).

Any belongings (suitcases and backpacks) that you do not wish to take with you during the tour can be safely left at your accommodation, as they have a luggage storage service. However, if you do not feel comfortable leaving your things there, you can also bring them to our office to store them during the tour.

The best time to visit is in dry season, to clarify the city of Cusco has 2 types of weather:

 First: Rainy season that oscillates between the months of December to March.
