Short Inca Trail 2D/1N is the ultimate hike to walk in ancient footsteps to Machu Picchu for those tight on time but still have the energy and deeply want to cross the Qhapac Ñan (Inca Trail). The Short Inca Trail is an alternative Inca trail where you will discover dense forests, waterfalls,  and archaeological remains including Wiñayhuaynam and learn about the ancient culture.

Itinerary

Short Inca Trail

Cusco – KM104 – Aguas Calientes

Day 1:

We start the day by picking you up from your hotel between 4:00 a.m. You will go by bus to Ollantaytambo, where you will board the train around 6:00 am. towards km 104 of the railway line where the Inca trail 2 days stars where you will also meet your tour guide and pass a control point of the Inca Trail.

We’ll begin with a 3-hour uphill hike towards to archaeological complex of Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft) The name comes from a beautiful orchid that abounds in the area and has the meaning in Spanish “Eternally young” and has more than 20 buildings, one of them the Temple of the Rainbow also called Temple of Fertility, where you will have time to explore and listen to a guided explanation of the ruins.

Then, you will eat lunch and walk for another 2 hours to the Intipunku Sun Gate, through Andean trails, stone stairs and tambos (“resting places”) until we reach Inti Punku – Puerta del Sol (2,720 m / 8,923 ft) which in the time of the Incas worked as an entrance control to the Citadel of Machu Picchu; From here you have an impressive panoramic view of Machu Picchu and the entire valley that surrounds it, then we will descend by approximately 30 minutes to the wonder of the world Machu Picchu (2,490 m / 8,169 ft).

Afterwards you will take came back down to Aguas Calientes where you will spend a night in the hotel also enjoy a delicious dinner

Machu Picchu Cusco

Day 2:

  We will get up early to start the tour to Machu Picchu. We will take a bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu

Then in the main gate, where we will again show our passports and tickets before entering the site. Once everyone is at the gate, we begin the 2.5-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, learning everything about The Lost City of the Incas.

  • Optional: You can climb Huayna Picchu (most requested), Machu Picchu or Huchuy Picchu (each entry has an aditional cost, and let us know if you are going to take this option)

We will come down to Aguas Calientes. Where we will have out lunch.

Then we take the train to Ollantaytambo, and then the bus until Cusco, arriving at 8:00pm approximately.
