It is one of the most beautiful beaches in northern Peru, renowned for its turquoise waters with greenish hues and an average water temperature of approximately 22°C. Its sandy bottom and gentle waves make it ideal for both water sports enthusiasts and swimmers.
The waters around this beach are teeming with marine life, including a variety of fish such as the sea bass, grouper, snapper, shrimp, and the spotted sea bass, as well as sea lions (further out at sea). Various bird species can also be found here, including the Peruvian flamingo, pelicans, and seagulls, among others.
During the 19th century, Lobitos was a fishing village, and today it remains an important part of the Peruvian coastline.

Lobitos Beach is located in the Lobitos district (next to the Lobitos Military Camp), in the Talara province (18 km north of the city of Talara), in the Piura region.

There are several activities you can enjoy during your visit to Lobitos Beach, for example:
If you are passionate about water sports, this beach is ideal for practicing surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing professionally, thanks to the abundance of left-breaking waves. Specifically, four spots are known for consistently producing medium-sized, tubular waves.
If you prefer to enjoy the natural surroundings, you can take a walk through the town of Lobitos, where you can see old houses that were part of the first American settlement in the area.
Another activity to enjoy at Lobitos Beach is simply relaxing in the sea, thanks to its pleasant temperature, crystal-clear water, and gentle waves.
Take a stroll along the Lobitos pier for the best views of the beach and the ocean.
Savor some delicious local cuisine; the fish ceviche and black clam ceviche are exquisite, thanks to the freshness of the seafood.
You can also take surf lessons at Lobitos Beach. There are several surf schools and instructors available to teach you this sport.

Importance:
On Lobitos Beach, one of the most important oil camps in Peru and all of South America was built, at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
Lobitos Beach has the largest left-hand surf break in South America.
Why the name Lobitos?
The name comes from the abundant presence of sea lions, which made fishing activity almost impossible.
Best time to visit Lobitos Beach
Lobitos Beach can be visited year-round, as it has a warm climate. From November onwards, temperatures can reach up to 35 degrees Celsius.

How to get to Lobitos Beach?
If you are in Lima, you have two options to get there: by air or by land.
By air from Lima
This is a good option if you want to save time. From Jorge Chávez Airport, the airlines that fly to Talara include Sky Airline and LATAM, among others.
The flight lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes, and tickets can be found starting at S/ 226.
Talara to Lobitos
Once you arrive in Talara, take a motorized taxi (mototaxi) to the bus/taxi/van terminal. The fare is S/ 2.00. The terminal is located at the intersection of Avenida E and Avenida Mártires Petroleros. From there, you can take a bus, taxi, or van to Lobitos. These vehicles operate daily, with departures from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The fare is S/ 4.00 per person.
Alternatively, you can hire a taxi. The price starts at S/ 30.00, but it’s negotiable.
From Piura to Lobitos
If you arrive in Piura, you can take a bus or taxi to Talara (a 2-hour journey). There are taxis that travel this route, and the fare is S/ 9.00. In Talara, you can find buses, vans, and taxis at the intersection of Avenida E and Avenida Mártires Petroleros. The fare to Lobitos is S/ 4.00 per person, and the trip takes about 25 minutes.
By Land from Lima
If you have enough time and are looking for affordable tickets, this is the most recommended option: direct transportation from Lima to Talara. To do this, go to the bus terminal located at the intersection of Av. Javier Prado and Av. 28 de Julio. The bus companies that serve this route are Cruz del Sur and Exclusiva, both offering night departures. The trip takes 19 hours. Tickets range from 80 to 150 soles, and prices are subject to change depending on the season. From Talara, you can take a shared taxi, van, or car to Lobitos.
From Mancora to Lobitos
The distance from Mancora to Lobitos is 71 km. To get to Lobitos, take a taxi from Av. Piura in Mancora. The fare is 10 soles, and the trip takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. The taxi will drop you off in the town of Talara. Once in Talara, you can find transportation to Lobitos.

What other beaches can we find in Lobitos?
Among other natural attractions, the following beaches stand out:
- La Punta: This beach is recommended for surfing year-round due to its consistent, tubular waves, making it suitable for surfers of all levels.
- El Huerto: This is another beach that is good for surfing. The best time of year for surfing here is between April and October, when the waves are at their best. It is recommended for intermediate to advanced surfers.
- Los Muelles: This beach offers good waves throughout the year and is suitable for surfers of all levels.
- Piscina: This beach is located in a military zone and entry is restricted to those with proper identification. Surfing is possible here.
- Playa Baterías: This small beach has good waves year-round and is suitable for surfing. It is recommended for intermediate to advanced surfers.
- Las Capullanas: This beach is located 5 km from Lobitos and is also known as Punta Yapato. It holds historical significance; according to Peruvian history and local legends, this is where Francisco Pizarro landed. This beach is also notable for the presence of the Cerro Caves, which offer opportunities for spiritual tourism.
