Description

The formation of the hot springs originates from the waters that flow from the interior of the Chachani volcano. Their water temperatures range from 23° to 28°.

There are 18 permanent hot springs, most of which remain to be studied. The Yura hot springs are well known for their healing properties. They are said to be able to cure diseases such as anemia, arthritis, rheumatism, dermatosis, obesity, vein problems, infertility, among others.

The most popular hot springs whose properties have been studied are Tigre, Zamacola, and Fierro Viejo. They are important for their rich surrounding landscape, crowned by beautiful plants that emanate exquisite aromas.

The four main ones located in the center of Yura have a single cost or entrance fee of 5 soles for each well, except for the last one, which has its own policies. However, it is important to highlight that those located in the center of Yura have this price per unit, regardless of which one the visitor selects to enjoy and enjoy the waters.

  1. Tiger Well
    This is one of the oldest pools in Yura. Built in 1824, it consists of five sulfurous pools. These pools are ideal for treating skin conditions. The steam they emit is also important for health. It is also recommended for those seeking relief from ailments such as rheumatism, arthritis, obesity, and digestive tract problems, among others.
  2. Tadeo Haenke Pool
    The Tadeo Haenke pool is not as old as Tiger Well, but it is quite spacious, which is important if you go on weekends and want some space to yourself while you bathe. Its waters are also alkaline sulfurous.
  3. Zamacola Well
    This pool has only one pool, which is the largest in the entire Yura complex. It is recommended for those suffering from anemia and nervous system disorders, and for strengthening the body.
  4. Pozo Fiero Viejo
    This hot spring has similar characteristics to the Zamacola hot spring and is recommended for patients suffering from anemia and those with fertility problems.
    When entering this hot spring, some recommendations apply: do not spend more than an hour submerged due to the water temperature. This hot spring is also recommended for developing children due to the significant benefits it provides.
  5. Quiscos Spa
    Unlike the other hot springs found in the center of Yura, Quiscos is located in the northern area, past the towns of Yura Viejo and Uyupampa. It is worth noting that its waters are not as warm but are clear in color, and the trip to Quiscos is truly breathtaking.

How to get to the Yura hot springs?

If you are in Lima or Cusco and plan to visit these healing waters in Yura, you must first take a bus or a flight to the city of Arequipa.

Access from Lima: If you are planning to visit by bus, the travel time to Arequipa is approximately 17 hours. The companies that operate this route include Tepsa, Oltursa y Exclusiva, Wari Palomino, Civa, Romeliza, and Movil Bus. Prices vary depending on the season, but standard fares range from 60 soles (16 USD) to 160 soles (48 USD) each way.

The easiest way to travel is by flight from Lima to Arequipa. The trip takes 1:30 minutes, and prices vary depending on the season and the airline.

Access from Cusco: Similarly, the land journey takes approximately 11 hours. The companies that offer this service are Oltursa, Exclusiva, Tepsa, Movil Tours, and Civa; prices range from 40 soles (12 USD).

The other option is to travel by plane, which takes approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Access from Arequipa

To start, you should go to the Melgar Bus Station, in front of the Peru Rail Train Station, and take the buses to the town of Yura.

The fare costs S/. 2 and the trip takes approximately 2 hours.

You can’t get lost once you board the bus, as the final stop drops you off at the Yura Tourist Hotel. From there, just continue walking along the same road to find the local pools.

The closest is Poza del Tigre, located next to the Tourist Hotel, and the furthest—not counting Quiscos—is Poza Fierro Viejo.
