Summary
The Salar de Uyuni Tour from Sucre is an all terrain adventure, which has as its starting and ending point the town of Uyuni, during the journey we will make stops at wonderful places like the Train Cemetery, Salar de Uyuni, first Salt Hotel, Dakar Monument, Forest of flags and Incahuasi. This excursion is a good option for nature and adventure lovers where we will have the opportunity to observe beautiful landscapes typical of the high Andean zones; our tour will be in a 4×4 mobility.

Every November the Salar de Uyuni is the breeding ground for three species of South American flamingos: Chilean, James and Andean. If you have not yet visited the famous Salar de Uyuni this is your chance to be the protagonist of this great wonder and take good pictures in the rainy season for the famous mirror effect.

Uyuni Salt Flat Tour from Sucre
1
Day 1
Pick up from your hotel in Sucre to be transferred to the bus terminal to travel to Uyuni.
Transfer by bus from Sucre – Uyuni (Departure 20:00 Hrs),

Day 2
First we will pick you up from the bus terminal in the town of Uyuni.
Transfer to our cafeteria, where you can have a delicious breakfast.
Pick up from the cafeteria to start the tour (10:30 Hrs).
First we will go to the train cemetery to see the old locomotives.
Then we head to the community of Colchani (the gateway to the Salar) where we will find rustic handicraft workshops and the rustic micro-processor of table salt.
Continuing with the expedition to the majestic Salar de Uyuni we will make stops to see salt extractions, salt eyes and the salt hotel Playa Blanca which currently only functions as a museum.
Later we will visit the most popular island of the Salar located in the middle of the Salar, the Incahuasi Island where we will hike and we will be able to appreciate large extensions of cactus, sea rock fossils and spectacular 360° views from the viewpoint.
Finishing our tour, we head to the town of Uyuni.
Important fact: private service is only in the Salar de Uyuni, the transportation from Sucre to Uyuni is in shared service.

The bus trip from Sucre to Uyuni takes about 8 hours and its distance is 361 Km approximately.
2. What is the best season to visit the Salar de Uyuni?
The ideal season to visit the salt flat is during the months of May to April and October and part of December since the weather is not extreme and there are great landscapes with clear skies over the salt flat.
3. How much does the entrance fee to the Salar de Uyuni cost?

4. Is it mandatory to hire a tour and can I go on my own?
It is not mandatory but highly recommended. You must take into account that there are hardly any signs on the road and the Salar is the perfect place to get lost since there are hardly any visual references and it has 10,500 square kilometers of extension. The risks of getting stranded in the rainy season if you do not know the terrain are also very high. In any case you will need a 4×4 vehicle.
