MANU 5D EXPEDITION

1

           DAY 1. – Cusco (3,300 m.a.s.l.) – Andes- (3650 m.a.s.l.) Cloud Forest (1,400 m.a.s.l.)

Start of our 5d manu expedition. The first day of our adventure begins with an early departure from Cusco in our vehicles, crossing inter-Andean valleys and peasant communities. We will visit Paucartambo, a charming colonial town, and its fascinating museum. Afterwards, we will make a brief stop in Acjanacco to have lunch and contemplate the panoramic view of the jungle from the puna. We will continue to the Cloud Forest, known for its richness in endemic species such as the Spectacled Bear and the Cock of the Rock, as well as a variety of flora such as orchids, bromeliads and ferns. Finally, we will head to the Orquídeas de San Pedro lodge for the night.

2

DAY 2.- Cloud Forest – Erika Lodge (600m.a.s.l.)

At dawn, we will go in search of the fascinating Cock of the Rock, Peru’s national bird, to witness its unique courtship ritual. After breakfast, we will head to the village of Pilcopata and then to the port of Atalaya, from where we will begin an exciting boat ride down the Alto Madre de Dios River to our private reserve “Erika”. In the afternoon, we will explore trails, admire the imposing Ceiba tree and go on a night walk to observe the nocturnal life of the jungle. In addition, we offer the free option of canoeing on the Koñeq and Alto Madre de Dios rivers, enjoying the scenery and refreshing waters.

3

       DAY 3. – Erika Lodge

At dawn, we navigate to the Collpa, a clay wall on the Alto Madre de Dios River, where parrots such as the blue-headed and the white-eyed parakeet come to supplement their diet with minerals. After this activity, we return to the Erika Lodge for breakfast. Then, we visit Machuwasi Lake by catamaran, spotting various birds such as the hoatzin, camungos, cardinals and herons. During a walk, we can see monkeys, capybaras and snakes. Optionally, a night walk allows us to look for toads, reptiles and mammals such as monkeys and tapirs.

4

DAY 4.- Erika Lodge – Aguas Calientes – Erika Lodge

After breakfast, we board our boat for a fascinating 3-hour trip down the Alto Madre de Dios River to the hot springs of Shintuya, surrounded by lush Amazonian forest. Once there, we will walk along a trail for approximately 3 hours (round trip) until we reach some impressive waterfalls, where we will be able to admire the diversity of flora and fauna of the lowland jungle. Afterwards, we will relax in the hot springs before returning to Erika Lodge, where we will spend our last night in the embrace of this magical Amazon rainforest.

5

DAY 5.- Erika Lodge – Cusco

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we pack up and head by boat back to the port of Atalaya. There, our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. On the way, we will make a brief stop at the Mirador Pico de Hoz, a hummingbird garden and environmental conservation center, where we will be able to observe and photograph a great variety of birds. We will enjoy lunch en route and arrive early afternoon in Cusco.

Cogedlos, aunque estéis acostumbrados a no usarlos.

Great Experience It was a great experience! It was really cool to see the mountain half in its original colour, the other half in snow; the contrast made it quite special. Kudos to our guide who went up to the mountain with us. It was definitely no easy task!

He even paid the remainder of our horse ride payment when we were short on soles. He is highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience rainbow mountain tour.

Caring guide Tito was very patient and caring. He did guide us well through the different ways and always looked out for the last ones (myself included). The altitude was affecting me badly and he supported me through the whole way. I highly recommend Tito as a guide for the Rainbow mountain day trip! Gracias Muchacho!

Rainbow Mountains + Red Valley is a must go! The walk to the Rainbow Mountain was a bit touch but it was worthy!!! Tito was a great tour guide who looked after all of us and explained about the area. Tito suggested to go to one of the walks around the Red Valley and it was stunniiiing!!! One of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in my life. Highly recommend to go to the Red Valley and, if you want to push yourself even further, go to the top of the mountain. It’s amazing

Recomendo o passeio!
