Day 1

The tour Chullpas de Sillustani, starts around 14:00 pm. In an altiplanic plateau, more than 30 kilometers north of Puno, where Sillustani is located, one of the largest necropolis in the world.

During the tour you will also be able to observe impressive landscapes, as well as the Umayo lagoon that is close to the archaeological complex of the chullpas, built by the Collas and Incas, to bury their dead.

What is inside the chullpas?

It is a unique cemetery belonging to the Kolla culture where the remains of nobles, rulers and priests of this ancient Aymara kingdom that occupied a large part of what is now southern Peru and the Bolivian altiplano are buried.

How did the chullpas live?

In ancient times, the Ch’ullpa lived, beings who built their houses with the doors facing west, where the sun used to rise. One day they decided to change the orientation of the doors of their houses in the opposite direction.
